    tipping for housekeeping

every so often this topic comes up.

some/maybe all of the all inclusive resorts include tipping in their overall charge to the guest.
do you think that they are being compensated appropriately and/or do you tip extra to that housekeeper?

if you are staying at a hotel or timeshare do you tip the housekeeper and is it a daily tip or tip at the end of stay?

we used to tip the housekeeper at the end of our stay, but the last few times the housekeeper has not been the same person daily...so a daily tip makes more sense for us.

We tip daily even when we stayed at an all inclusive. I just leave a note for housekeeping with the cash saying thank you. I always get a kick out of it when they write back and say thank you!

We tip daily with a little extra if we skip a day (example - we put the do not disturb if we are going to be in and out of the room a lot.) We also tip a little extra at the end. We base our tip on the size of the unit.

At the Surf Club, they only come once during the stay, I'm wondering if others would tip your cumulative per day amount, or leave the amount you normally leave for a single day?

We dont get our room cleaned daily so when we do we typically leave 10 for the cleaner. I feel a bit cheap when I do that but I am not sure exactly what to tip. If we just need towels and a few items I take them and typically give 5 or so. We try and do our room a few times each week....we tip every time we need service and add extra if our room is not clean. We really only need new towels during the week and an occasional bed to be made to feel like our room is in good shape.

We don't get our room cleaned most of the time unless we need fresh towels, or trash removed or tp or something. At the end we leave what we would have tipped each day if we had the room cleaned. We like our privacy.

I so agree. I make my bed in the morning just like I do at home and try not to leave any messes.....I dont feel like we need daily service at all. Sometimes its nice to get the floors swept and fresh towels but other than that we dont require much cleaning while away.

I often wonder what the housekeepers (at Lacabana) get paid prior to their tips?
I do know that @ LaCabana the housekeepers are pretty awesome and many have been there for decades.

We tip daily with a thank you note. The housekeeping staff at Playa Linda do a fantastic job.

Tip every day. Just in case it's not always the same person cleaning for us.

*Related, but slightly off topic* DH and I just spent 5 days in Los Cabos thanks to the EXTREME generosity of my boss. It was at an all inclusive resort, and we of course, forgot to leave a tip our first day. We doubled up the second day. On the third day, there was a message left on our bed telling us to Have a Wonderful Stay. They made the letters out of colored rice! I've never seen that before. On our checkout morning we left them a note back, saying Gracias!

Just a fun little touch, that was greatly appreciated by us.

In Aruba, we typically stay at the Stellaris, and will always leave a tip each morning. We generally get a note asking us to call Housekeeping if there is ANYTHING that we need.
