Use of VPN when on free wifi in Aruba

Do any of you use a VPN while in Aruba using your resort's free wifi?

While in Aruba, we will have some online banking to do...moving things from Point A to points B and C as well as bill paying.

I could use the iphone and the data plan........... but working on the iPhone does not thrill me in the least.

I have no personal experience, but here is a link from the CNET website, a site that I trust for technical advice.

I use a VPN when connected to WiFi everywhere. It also comes in handy for streaming audio and video that is blocked in other countries. I also use it to login to the NVR in our home and business to view camera feeds, among many other things.

That depends. Are you using a consumer grade, commercial grade our enterprise grade router at home? How network setup savvy are you?

I think Walt uses a VPN server through his employer, and he'll correct me if I'm wrong.

If I were you I would suggest using a third party VPN server and Tracy provided a link to a few of them. I use OpenVPN, as it is native on the Enterprise grade network that I built for our home, but you could also subscribe to it. It works great here on the island and I picked one of their Servers in the USA. It costs $6.00 a month for three devices, so I have it on my laptop, iphone and ipad. It also has unlimited data for the month, which is great if you are also streaming.

    thanks!!

we have a computer guru (retired IT guy) a few streets over from me. (Homer)
I will call him and ask him to figure it out for me.
while in Aruba and other places (like my clubhouse and pool area) I do not want our stuff at risk of being hacked/compromised.
