Since 1980, and throughout the many changes, we still love going downtown in Oranjestad.

What were you listening to when you were planning your first Aruba vacation?

    Good evening everyone,

I thought this might be a fun kind of thing.

When I was planning my first vacation to Aruba back in 1980, these are the songs I listened to the most as I poured over the dozen or so brochures the Aruba Tourist Authority in Toronto had sent to me. No Internet then!

Bette Davis Eyes by Kim Carnes (still my favourite)

Jole Blon by Gary U.S. Bonds

Up Around the Bend by Creedance Clearwater Revival

Anytime I hear any of these three songs, I am transported back in time, to when I was eagerly awaiting my first week at Manchebo Beach.

    How about you?

Back in August of 2010 my I-pod nano was still working, which helped to provide some good background music for my flight from Trinidad to Curacao, the five hours and forty-five minutes spent in layover and the final twenty-five minute flight over to Aruba. The songs that stick out the most are as follows:
    Everywhere By Michelle Grant
Island in The Sun by Weezer
    Holiday by Weezer
    One Step Beyond by Madness
Come to the Islands by Bungi Garlin featuring Patrice Roberts
    Sugarcane

I honestly have 0 recollection of music in that era while making plans.......in 1979/80 I had been to Aruba 1x and that was on a scuba trip to Bonaire. We had 2 overnights in Aruba. But, given the timeframe, I am sure that I was listening to Donna Summer, Elton John, Abba and Bee Gees.

Re: Vallond's comment about the iPod .....I remember my son gave my husband and I each an iPod maybe back in 2004 (?) and we LOVED those devices!

1974. Rikki Don't Lose That Number, Steely Dan. Playing it tomorrow night at a gig in PA. Midnight at the Oasis, Maria Muldaur. Not playing that one but wish we were.

I was actually listening to an experienced Aruba visitor to help me plan my first trip and where to stay!
