Thoughts on Aruba Sunset Beach Studios

Already thinking about planning our next trip. We thought about staying 5 days somewhere and then a week at Manchebo. With prices rising for everything, we’d like to economize a bit. We like small and intimate. Nothing fancy, that’s just not us. We’ll have a car so Sunset Beach Studios location seems like a good fit. I know some of you have stayed there ( Glenn most recently ) so maybe you can share your thoughts. Thanks all!

    we have stayed there 3x.
it is a very laid back place with small studio units in a garden setting.
nothing fancy or new...it is cozy, clean and comfortable.
the pool is small but fine for water jogging, not lap swimming...I am guessing it is 25 x 12 or thereabouts.

    the parking is good

    the bbq area is great

the staff are terrific, of all the places we have stayed, the staff at Sunset Beach have been the kindest.

it is NOTHING like any of the eagle beach or palm beach resorts.

    think low key, laid back.

the place caters to windsurfers/kite sailors.

the 2 units in the front are larger and a bit more comfortable.

Thanks for your feedback. It sounds like it would be a good fit for us. We would probably utilize the BBQ area since the meats at Super Food look so good! I think we’d be happy there for a few days.

be aware that the beach across the road although spectacular from a distance is really not a beach to lounge and swim.
very shallow and the beach where sand is expected is gravel/coral.
we had to buy chairs and cart them around to Arashi and other beaches.
they had no beach chairs to lend us at the time. (3 visits)

By the picture on their website I figured it wasn’t a swimming beach. We would probably use these days to visit places we haven’t gone to and then relax by the pool in the afternoon. We could also spend a day at that place that just reopened, Reflexions? Thanks for the info, let me know if you think of anything else.

Since 1980, and throughout the many changes, we still love going downtown in Oranjestad.

Good morning Stoney, Andrea and everyone else,

Sorry for the late reply but I'll give you my take on Sunset Beach Studios (SBS)

A bit of background first. I've been going to Aruba, on and off, since 1980. I've stayed at Manchebo, Talk of the Town, Amsterdam Manor and SBS.

SBS small, about 14 or 15 units in total. It is about a mile or so past the large resort hotels. The units in the front Ocean View 1 and Ocean View 2 are the larger units and the most comfortable.

I've stayed at SBS the last four visits to Aruba. Staff are always friendly and helpful and they have a fiercely loyal clientele, a mixture of American, Dutch and Canadian guests.

Andrea is right on about several things including the beach. It is not really for lounging or swimming. Best do those things elsewhere.

The pool, while small, is a favourite gathering place, especially in the late afternoon; same with the adjacent palapa.

If you want to give the restaurant scene a rest, there are a couple of bbq's for use. Superfoods is about a 15 minute drive away so get some steaks or burgers or hotdogs and enjoy lunch or dinner in.

One recent addition (as in the last few years) is a beautiful long walkway on the beach side of the road. I think it was built to provide some separation between motorists and the morning joggers.

If you would like to know a bit more, just ask. I'm always happy to answer a question and if I don't know the answer, I'll let you know that too.

A wish for a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year.
