Moomba Beach is getting ready to host the 2026 Unox Nieuwjaarsduik on Thursday, January 1st, one of Aruba’s most beloved New Year traditions.
The annual plunge into the Caribbean Sea has become a refreshing and meaningful way for many to start the year, blending Dutch heritage with Aruba’s relaxed island vibe.
Just before 12:00 noon, participants gather along the shoreline for the countdown and the unified rush into the sea. Guests are encouraged to arrive early, as the popular free Unox hats will be handed out while supplies last. These bright orange hats have become a recognizable and cherished part of the event.
After the plunge, the celebration continues at Moomba Beach with free Dutch pea soup (erwtensoep), a long-standing tradition that offers warmth after the chilly dip. Guests can also enjoy bucket deals on Chill and Balashi, making it easy to unwind with friends and fellow participants.
This year’s event features live performances by PTR, Bradley Fonseca, and Bonjorno, providing hours of beachside entertainment. Many families, groups of friends, and travelers stay long after the dive to enjoy the music and atmosphere, turning the Nieuwjaarsduik into a full New Year’s Day celebration.
Conveniently located between the Marriott’s Surf Club and the Holiday Inn, Moomba Beach is easily accessible and remains one of Aruba’s top community gathering spots. The Unox Nieuwjaarsduik stands out as one of the island’s most recognizable traditions, offering a simple yet memorable way to welcome the new year.
As the event continues to grow, it highlights Aruba’s unique cultural mix, connecting Dutch customs with the warm, laid-back character of island life. Whether you take the plunge or enjoy the festivities from shore, the Nieuwjaarsduik provides a spirited and refreshing start to 2026.
