Reunited in Aruba and it Feels So Good!

The last few months have been an adjustment, to say the least.

The entire world has had to make sacrifices to keep ourselves and those around us safe. For many, those sacrifices included going extended periods of time without seeing our loved ones. And with travel having been very restricted, long-distance love birds have been separated for way too long.

With many countries still closed for inbound travel, we’ve noticed an influx of geographically separated couples reuniting in Aruba since we Opened for Happiness in July.

If you’re absolutely longing to meet up with your significant other on the One Happy Island, you’re in luck! In this blog post, I’ll explain how you can enjoy a magical time together, all while taking the necessary safety precautions!

A peaceful and beautiful place to relax in Aruba.

The Journey

Once you and your sweetheart have selected a date for your Aruba escape, it’s time to arrange everything you need to be able to travel to Aruba. Depending on where each of you are coming from, there may be different Aruba traveler health requirements. Before you book, make sure the borders with both your countries are open with Aruba’s, and verify whether you are both able to comply with the guidelines stipulated on Aruba.com. You will find a very detailed explanation of the process here. While it might seem like a lot of work to some, it’s actually really simple and many have expressed that it was all worth it in the end!

Now you’re ready to fly! Mask up, and we’ll see you on the One Happy Island!

The Encounter

Welcome home! Upon arrival in Aruba, you might need to take a few safety precautions before you can properly embrace, depending on whether you took your accepted COVID-19 test before travel or upon arrival. If you both took your tests before travel, you are free to properly greet one another right away. Just a big hug though, because masks must be kept on until you arrive at your accommodation.

If one or both of you opted to test at the Airport in Aruba instead, that big hug may have to wait just a little longer. I know, I know… But you’ve waited this long, what’s a few more hours? Visitors who test at the Aruba airport must quarantine until their negative test results come in. This can take up to 24 hours, but typically, you’ll have your results within 6 to 8 hours. Be sure to download the Aruba Health App before traveling to Aruba to receive your results.

I recommend choosing accommodations with multiple rooms so you can properly quarantine until your results come in. If you're staying in a studio or a hotel room, just try to keep as much distance as possible. One of you may have to sleep on the couch. Rock, paper, scissors is a solid method for deciding which one of you is the lucky one! Once those negative results come in, the romantic reunion will be worth the wait.

The Experience

Now that you’re finally back together, it’s time to have some fun! Aruba has a ton of great romantic activities you can do together. In order to determine which experience providers have gone the extra mile to protect your health and safety, be sure to check whether they comply with the Aruba Health & Happiness Code. I’ll share some of my favorite romantic activities , and share how they can be enjoyed as safely as possible.

Romantic Dinner

No romantic trip is complete without at least one romantic dinner. Restaurants that adhere to the Aruba Health & Happiness Code have taken all the necessary precautions to help keep their guests and their staff safe. If you’re still not quite comfortable dining in a public setting, that’s okay too! So many restaurants now offer a delivery or pick-up service. Dinner can be just as romantic on your hotel balcony.

These restaurants (and many more) are open for dine-in and take out or delivery:

Sunset Strolling

I believe that the very best socially distant activity is to take a stroll on one of Aruba’s many breathtakingly beautiful beaches. Very few activities can compare to wading along the shore with your partner as the waves crash into your ankles. What could possibly enhance such a perfect moment? A beautiful sunset! Watch the sky go from blue to pink to orange and purple as the sun gets ready to call it a day. It’s also the perfect setting for an intimate proposal ;-).

Reconnect with Nature

For the couples who are not afraid of a little adventure while on vacation, I recommend hiking or biking through the Arikok National Park. It’s a great way to get fresh air, take in some of Aruba’s most beautiful sceneries, and stay at a safe distance from others. Picture it, just you, your partner, and the occasional iguana.

The Movies (But Different)

Recently, the sorely missed Drive-in Theater reopened its doors in Aruba. A drive-in movie is one of the most classically romantic activities ever! You won’t even have to worry about big crowds because all movie-goers will be obligated to stay in their cars, except when they are visiting the concession stand where masks must be worn. Now is the perfect time to catch up on all the blockbusters you may have missed as the theater is playing some popular movie throwbacks.

On the Water

There are so many water activities that can be enjoyed as a couple. And since Aruba is the sunniest island in the Caribbean, you’re guaranteed to have the best weather conditions to do so! My favorites are jet-skiing, stand up paddleboarding, kayaking, and snorkeling. Whether you’re experienced water sports enthusiasts, or you’re learning these new skills together, you’ll surely have an unforgettable time. Just remember to wear your reef-safe oxybenzone-free sunscreen!

Here are some companies that rent water sports gear:
